Ten Sleep, Wyoming

Located in the western foothills of the Big Horn Mountain range, Ten Sleep was originally a Native American rest stop. It was so named because it was ten days travel to Yelowstone National Park, Fort Laramie, and the Indian Agency in Montana. This area is also the site of the legendary Spring Creek Raid, one of the last feuds between Cattlemen and Sheepherders that took place in the early 1900’s.
Here, outdoor enthusiasts can find plenty of ways to occupy their time. The city has an abundance of recreational areas where you can hunt, fish, kayak, mountain bike, camp, and spelunk to your hearts desire! About an hour south of the city, you can find Big Cedar Ridge, which has been called the “Plant Pompeii” due to the abundance of plant fossils. Ten Sleep is also rich in archeological sites, where you can find petroglyphs, pictographs, and maybe an arrowhead!
